I was a student at the University of Michigan at the time when one of my fellow MARS (Michigan Animal Rights Society) members introduced me to the Sexual Politics of Meat by Carol Adams.
I was already vegan because the idea of eating animal and harming animals was so appallingly sad to me, I just couldn't understand how the rest of the world didn't see it the same way.
As I continued to meet people that didn't feel the same way as me, I realized it was time to read up more on the issues and find other defenses of veganism other than Meat is Murder (even though this is the argument that I still find to be the most convincing)
So I borrowed my friend's tattered copy and I read it cover to cover. I was so enthralled by it and couldn't wait to share all my new information with everyone. I found a way to include The Sexual Politics of Meat as a reference to almost every paper I wrote during my college career as it seemed so relevant to everything I was learning.
It was a couple of months/5 bake sales/3 university grant applications later that MARS brought Carol Adams to speak at the University. Lots of speakers were brought to campus. If you wanted to, there was probably a speaker's event to attend every night of the year. The event we had with Carol Adams was attended by over 200 people which is an amazing number especially since MARS probably only had about 14 active members.
So it is a great honor to me that MooShoes has had the opportunity to host book signings with Carol Adams. It is a really great honor that we now get to host a book signing celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Sexual Politics of Meat.
So please join us on Thursday, September 16th, at 7pm at MooShoes for this event.
Carol Adams will be speaking and books will be available for purchase.
